Roberts Cougars Participates in Safe Routes to Schools.

Picture
Roberts Elementary, in conjunction with other schools in the El Paso Independent School District, is participating in a national program named Safe Routes to School. The district has received a $4.7 million grant in order to create an environment where students will be safe when walking to school. The program trains teachers so they can implement a bicycle safety course for students. The grant also provides 134 free bicycles to be given to students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.

The mission of the Safe Routes to School organization is to encourage children to walk and bicycle to school. It is designed to make bicycling and walking to school a safe transportation option. It aims to improve safety and reduce  fuel consumption, traffic, and air pollution near our school. It also develops lifelong healthy habits in children by encouraging a more active lifestyle through walking and biking.
